The Archaeology of Palestine

Dr W. F. Albright was born in South America in 1891, and was educated in the United States, receiving his doctorate from Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, Md.) in 1916. From 1919 CO 1936 he was staff-member and director of the American School of Oriental Research in Jerusalem, directing or advising numerous archaeologi-cal expeditions in Palestine and surrounding countries. He is now W. W. Spence Professor of Semitic Languages in the Johns I lopkins University. Dr Albright holds many honorary doctorates, including degrees from Yale, St Andrews, Trinity College (Dublin), Utrecht, Oslo, and Uppsala. He is a member of the American Philosophical Society and the National Academy of Sciences, foreign member of the Royal Danish and Flemish Academies, honorary member of the Royal Irish Academy, corresponding member of the lnstitut de France and the Austrian Academy of Sciences; he is also fellow of the German Archaeological Institute and honorary member of the Societe Asiatique, the British Society for Old Testament Study, the Glasgow Oriental Society, and other learned bodies.
